How to Prepare for a Financial Apocalypse: Guns & Ammo
Dec. 27, 2013 • 782 views

Wall Street expert and financial adviser David John Marotta has sparked concern after writing a note to investors advising them to prepare for civil unrest as the result of a financial meltdown by purchasing firearms and ammunition. Marotta has written a series of posts on the topic of the potential for a financial apocalypse, which he doesn’t think is as imminent as some have predicted:
Societal breakdowns have happened in history and we can’t eliminate such a possibility in the future. There is the possibility of a precipitous decline, although a long and drawn out malaise is much more likely.
Marotta attempts to carefully examine some of the advice — not all of it good — given to prepare people for societal calamity. While he debunks some of the the conventional wisdom regarding preparedness, he does make the case that owning firearms and ammunition are a good tactic:
Just to be clear. Firearms are the last item on the list, but they are on the list. There are some terrible people in this world. And you are safer when your trusted neighbors have firearms.
He argues that personal protection should be part of a larger preparedness, which includes food, water, and medical supplies.
Joe:
What will happen when all of the people in the country who feel entitled to something from our state, local and national governments including social security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc and it can no longer be obtained because they can’t meet all the obligations that have been promised?
Let’s see what happens then.
Michael,
While yours is an excellent question, and one that, I’m sure many people are fearful of the answer, there is another equally important question to ask and to have the answer for.
How did we get here?
The answer to that question is important for the ages. It’s important to have that answer, and employ it during our recovery and redemption, after our collapse when the government has run out of Other Peoples Money, and our incrementally-built-up dependency finally goes unfulfilled.
The answer? . . . An entire treatise could be written to cover all the factors involved because there is not a single answer. The cause is a synthesis of moral failings committed incrementally over the course of time ever since our founding. There is an old saying that goes something like this, “as goes the head, so goes the rest of the body”. Make no mistake about this. These moral failings were committed by the generations of our political class - our “heads”, so to speak. These moral failings are a long succession of immoral policy decisions, made for a wide variety of mistaken or unscrupulous motivations. They have served as a succession of bad precedents. Our heads got us moving towards the gutter and our bad precedent laws are the guide rails forcing our bodies to follow.
The more people realize and understand how we got here, the better we will be able to see which political ideologies need to stay and which ones need to go, in order to free ourselves by redacting these immoral policy decisions. The sooner we start, the better.
I believe the government needs to look into all these people receiving government assistance. driving huge vehicles probably with no insurance, all these illegals coming in and government will provide them with healthcare and my family cant afford it because its so expensive. heres a person that just married a girl just to be able to get a green card, has a social security number that’s not his and works for a medical billing company in Lombard Illinois, his name is DomingoHhilario Jr. Lives in Streamwood Ill. at 207 Larsen Ave. Streamwood Il. 60123, should have him checked out. and think how many more are out there. this country is so sad, letting in all these immigrants and people who were born here, have to sit back and be treated worse them then. it so saddens me. why can the government not see things clear like everybody else does
