From Chicago Suntimes.
Cmdr. Paul Bauer of the Chicago Police Department was shot and killed this afternoon in downtown Chicago at the Thompson Center. Cmdr. Bauer was off duty, but assisting with fellow officers who were chasing the man after an altercation.
Bauer was shot several times, said Johnson, who was visibly upset at a Tuesday afternoon news conference outside Northwestern.
He previously was the commander of the department’s mounted patrol unit.
Joe Walsh, former Congressman and now right-wing talk show host, tweeted “That high ranking Chicago Police Officer, a Commander, who was shot in downtown Chicago this afternoon, has died. Downtown. Just horrible.”
