Dean Winslow, who is a retired Air-Force colonel and flight surgeon, stated that he shared his thoughts on gun control, which led to his Senate confirmation being put on hold.

‘I blurted out what was in my heart: “I’d also like to . . . just say how insane it is that in the United States of America a civilian can go out and buy a semiautomatic weapon like an AR-15.” Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) interrupted, warning this was not in my “area of responsibility or expertise.” Soon after, my confirmation was put on hold.’

Right-wing talk show host and former Congressman, Joe Walsh, tweeted, “You have a right to speak your mind. But the Senate Armed Services Committee has a right to speak their mind as well. And they have a right to not approve your nomination.”
