On Monday, Missoui Gov. Jay Nixon issued a state of emergency in Ferguson, Missouri, ahead of the release of the grand jury’s findings in the case of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown by Officer Darren Wilson. The order by Nixon coincides with the activation of the National Guard in that state, in anticipation of violence and unrest.
There is no indication that an announcement from the grand jury is imminent.
This all comes as “activists” are training protestors about how to cause maximum disruption when the grand jury findings are released. At one of these training sessions this weekend, trainees were told to target white areas around Ferguson instead of black areas:
Personally, I think we don’t need to be on West Florissant. I wanna advocate that we go on South Florissant because the people on South Florissant don’t look like me. The people on West Florissant look like me and they’re with it. So … I really don’t have anything to protest on West Florissant. So if I’m in the area I’m going to Ferguson Police Department.
