Over the last couple of weeks, a lot of voices, ranging from the United Nations to the liberal media, have condemned the Israeli military response to Hamas rocket attacks in Gaza. Without conclusive evidence, many have blamed Israeli Defense Forces for the shelling of a UN-run Gaza school, even though it’s a known fact that Hamas regularly uses civilian buildings such as hospitals and mosques to carry out their attacks.
On Wednesday today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the criticism of how he’s handled military operations in Gaza. “The people of Gaza are not our enemy,” Prime Minister Netanyahu said. “Our enemy is Hamas. Our enemy are the other terrorists organizations trying to kill our people and we’ve taken extraordinary circumstances and measures to avoid civilian casualties.
Recently, foreign news agencies have discovered Hamas setting up rocket launch pads near areas heavily populated with civilians. Reporters from New Delhi Television Limited captured video of Hamas soldiers setting up a rocket launch pad right next to a hotel. Netanyahu felt the need to remind the world that this is typical of the terrorist organization. “Hamas has adopted a strategy that abuses and sacrifices Gaza civilians. They use them as human shields. They endanger them and deliberately increase the death toll,” Netanyahu said.
There isn’t a military force in the world that makes as much effort as Israel does to avoid civilian death, yet they are continually scrutinized by the international media. It’s been Hamas’ tactic to stockpile arms, bombs, and rockets in or around populated areas. It’s not just an allegation. It’s literally written in their manuals where they give specific instructions on how to use civilians as human shields.
“The tragedy of Gaza is that it is ruled by Hamas, a tyrannical and fanatical terror group that relishes civilian casualties,” Netanyahu continued. “They want civilian casualties. They use them as PR fodder.” Absolutely! Hamas uses the deaths of women and children to their advantage by drumming up sympathy from the international community, particularly American media. Our media either does not or cannot recognize this because they’re blinded by their indifference to or their abject hatred of Israel.
The ongoing situation in Gaza has never been complicated. In fact, the only thing that’s complicated is why our media, most European leaders, and the Obama administration can’t understand what’s happening to Israel. It’s simple: Israel represents everything that is good, fighting day in and day out against a group that won’t stop fighting until our greatest ally in the middle east ceases to exist. And now on top of fighting a war with terrorists, the poor state of Israel has to battle with anti-Semitic media.
