New Years Day marked heartache and loss for 5 U.S. service members in Eastern Afghanistan in what U.S. forces call combat engagement. 1 U.S. soldier was killed, and 4 were badly injured.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own,” Gen. John Nicholson, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, said in a statement. “At this very difficult time our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of our fallen and wounded brothers.”
Right-wing talk show host, Joe Walsh, honored these men by tweeting “US soldier killed, 4 injured in Afghanistan. Prayers.”
