The White House announced on Tuesday that President Trump is continuing to advocate for raising the age limit to purchase assault weapons. He particularly mentioned age restrictions around buying the type of high-powered rifle that was used in the recent Florida school shootings.
“The president still supports raising the age limit to 21 for the purchase of certain firearms,” press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters.
Sanders said she expects the topic to come up when the president discusses gun violence on Wednesday with a bipartisan group of lawmakers, even though “he knows that everybody doesn’t necessarily agree.”
Right-wing talk show host, Joe Walsh, tweeted about this statement, saying “Bad Trump. And by the way, there’s no such thing as an assault rifle.”
